The Metis Index
What 471k+ planning records say about UK councils, consultants, and consents – published monthly, every number traceable to a decision.
UK planning generates extraordinary data and then does almost nothing with it. Every application, decision, delay and refusal across 27 councils is public – technically. In practice it's scattered across 27 portals built somewhere between the fax machine and the cookie banner, and nobody's reading it in aggregate.
We are. Metis indexes it continuously – 471k+ records and counting – and the Index is where we publish what the numbers actually say. Which councils decide in five weeks and which take five months. Where consent is nearly certain and where it's a coin flip. Which firms win, where, and how often. The statutory clock says eight weeks; the data has opinions.
If you advise clients on where and how to seek consent, this is your map. If you're just here because council league tables are secretly fascinating – welcome, you're our kind of person.
The rules we publish by
- Medians, not means. One stalled megascheme shouldn't drag a whole borough's number.
- Sources on everything. Every figure carries its n, its window, and a methodology note.
- Fresh or nothing. We only publish from parts of the estate we've verified as current. If we wouldn't act on the number, we won't print it.
What's coming
Decision days
We analysed this year's decisions across the estate to find out which councils actually hit the eight-week target. The spread will annoy you.
The consultant league table
Who actually wins consent in the big boroughs, by the numbers rather than by the pitch deck.
What gets refused, where
Approval rates by application type, and where the same scheme meets a very different mood.
The numbers, before the market has them.
One data-led briefing a month from 471k+ planning records. No fluff, no filler – if there's nothing worth saying, we skip the month.
